ESTEFANIA
"THE PRINCESS OF TANGO"
BIO:

Nineteen-year-old Estefania, already an outstanding figure of Argentinean tango, began her musical career
and public activities when she was a child. At the age of 7, she began her piano studies with professor Oscar
Garabeta. From an early age, her inclination, besides the piano, was towards singing. Her first public
performances took place in her home city of Punta Alta, where she sang a varied repertoire of tango and
popular songs. Her first tango lesson was with the outstanding soprano, Lilian Ceminari. Estefania continued
her piano studies with arranger/orchestrator, Victor Volpe and her vocal studies with mezzo-soprano, Karina
Di Virgilio. At the age of 13, she won “Voice of the Year” for the television program “Tango en la Bahía". For
that program she sang “Los Mareados”, “Como dos extraños” and “Naranjo en Flor”. Her repertoire already
included such well known traditional tango songs as “El Corazón mirando al Sur", “Uno”, " Pasional ", “Balada
para un loco", "Nostalgias", and "Malena”. In 1998, she participated in the Juvenile Tournaments in Buenos
Aires winning the municipal and regional phases, passing on to the final one in the city of Mar del Plata,
singing popular repertoire as well as tango. She won the silver medal in popular repertoire and the gold
medal in tango. In 1999, she performed as soloist, with the Bahia Blanca Symphony Orchestra in Argentina. At
15 years of age, Estefania won distinguished honors in the Festival of Cosquín, one of the most important
festivals of popular music in Argentina. Her international debut in 2000 took place in the United States,
inaugurating a new style of tango as a symphonic song. She was very successful in her performances with the
Tennessee Philharmonic Orchestra and the Shenandoah Symphony Orchestra in Virginia. Estefania’s
ascending career continued in Europe, specializing in singing traditional tangos by Astor Piazzola. She
performed with the Symphonic Orchestra of Maracaibo (Venezuela), as well as in the Chiesa di Vivaldi in
Venice where she was accompanied by the Gruppo Strumentale Veneto “G.F. Malipiero”. In Sicily (Italy) she
sang in the Basilica of Riposto and as soloist with the Symphonic Orchestra of Ploïesti (Romania) where she
brought the house down with her rendition, in Spanish, of “Don’t Cry for me Argentina”. The Governor of
Brussels invited her for a recital of tango in her private residence where many prominent Belgian artists had
the pleasure of hearing her. Recently she was invited to be soloist with the Orchestra Sinfonica della
Provincia di Bari during the Festival “Omaggio ad Astor Piazzola”, performing four concerts. Laura Escalada,
widow of the famous composer Piazzola, attended one of the concerts congratulating the young singer and
agreeing that has a great future.
